School Uniform

School uniform looks smart and contributes to a feeling of belonging to the school. It can be purchased from our online services which will have embroidered school logo, but plain T-shirts and cardigans can also to be purchased from supermarkets or department stores.

Please ensure that your child wears appropriate and safe footwear, flat soled shoes are best for school. We would prefer that girls only wear sandals in summer. Flip flops or plastic shoes are not to be worn to school .

Please ensure that all belongings, including shoes and bags are clearly marked with your child’s name.

The children will go out in all weathers except very heavy rain, so coats are important (wet weather gear is recommended). We believe in the saying – there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing!

Which items are we replacing?

We will be phasing black out of the school uniform over the next two years – this includes black jumpers, cardigans, sweatshirts, trousers and skirts.  Our black fleeces will still be acceptable but only as outdoor clothing.  Children will be asked to remove them during lessons.

Girls/Boys P.E.

Children are expected to change into their complete P.E kit for P.E and games. Every class has PE on a Monday and Friday.

Children will need a plain pair of preferably black shorts, a Tshirt in the colour of their team. Trainers can be worn for outside P.E. lessons and it is recommended that jogging bottoms, preferably black are brought in for P.E. lessons in winter, as the children will go outside even in cold weather for P.E.

All of these should be in a named drawstring shoe bag and in school from Monday to Friday. Tracksuits may be worn for religious reasons.

Year 3 and any older children who have not met the requirement of swimming 25m, will require the following: Swimming trunks (not shorts), sunsuit or a one piece swimming costume, swimming hat and a towel. We appreciate that for religious reasons, girls can cover their arms and legs.

Competition

When children go to competition for the school, we have uniform for TEAM Thurton that the children wear. We just ask that it is washed and returned to the member of staff that led the team.
